Not all Merino is created equal. We work with only the best.
Merino really is a gift from nature. We don't have to drill deep into the earth's crust for our raw material. It's just sitting there on the sheep's back, ready to be shorn. And when you take it off, it grows back. When you consider Merino sheep thrive in, at times, cold alpine conditions you get some idea of what a miraculous fibre it is, especially for clothing.
- Air is a great insulator. Merino is well known for its ability to insulate by trapping air pockets in the fabric.
- Merino Fibre is naturally breathable and regulates heat and moisture flows to/from your body just as nature designed it to do for sheep. The result is your own personal air-conditioner, maintaining the body's microclimate in changing conditions.
- Merino fibre has a hydrophilic (water holding) interior and hydrophobic (water repelling) exterior. So it absorbs perspiration without leaving you damp and uncomfortable. When damp it also releases a small amount of heat which prevents chilling. It will also repel showers! (Merino are very smart sheep!)
- Merino's fine fibres don't prickle and feel luxuriously soft on the skin.
- Merino is odour resistant which means less washing which is good for you and the environment.
- Merino is flame resistant and self-extinguishing.
- Merino fibre is an efficient absorber of potentially harmful UV radiation.
- Merino is an annually renewable, natural product that is biodegradable.
- Merino is quiet to wear. Won't rustle when you need to keep quiet.
- Merino is easy to live with. The surface properties of Merino fibre means that spills can be easily wiped away before creating permanent staining, it is also machine washable and wrinkle free
Nz Merino is the first choice for both performance outdoor clothing and fashionwear.
