Women's Health Physio
Our women’s health physiotherapists offer personalised care for all aspects of pelvic health. We provide a safe, welcoming space to address concerns such as pain, incontinence, prolapse, or core weakness. We also offer pre- and postnatal check-ups to support your body through pregnancy, birth, and recovery - whether you’re preparing for labour, healing postpartum, or navigating ongoing pelvic floor changes.
Most pelvic health concerns will be covered under a private fee, however ACC does fund certain maternal birth injuries. If you’re unsure what applies to your situation, we’re more than happy to guide you through your options.
Not sure if our pelvic health service is right for you? Flick us an email and one of our physiotherapists will get in touch.
What to expect at your appointment?
Your initial appointment will be 60 minutes long, allowing plenty of time for a thorough assessment. We’ll begin by talking through your health history, current symptoms, and goals to ensure we fully understand your experience.
Pelvic Floor Assessment
For all pelvic health appointments, your session may include the option for an internal pelvic floor examination. This can provide valuable insight into muscle strength, coordination, and function, helping us tailor your treatment to your needs. We’ll always explain the process clearly, and your comfort and consent are our priority, you are welcome to decline or pause at any time.
Treatment Plan
Together, we’ll create a treatment plan that supports your goals. This may include education, pelvic floor and core rehab, manual therapy, lifestyle strategies, or exercise.
Postnatal Appointments
We’ll discuss your pregnancy, delivery, and recovery. If you have any delivery notes, we recommend bringing these along with you.
You’ll receive a complete assessment of your core control, pelvic floor, and any other aches or pains you’re experiencing. Babies are always welcome to accompany you to your appointment too.
We suggest booking your postnatal check any time from 6 weeks after birth.
Prenatal Appointments
We’ll talk through any symptoms you may have and explore pelvic floor changes, diastasis recti, and abdominal control to help prepare your body for birth.
As well as exercise options to keep you comfortable and safe.
We recommend booking your prenatal check any time from 16 weeks.
